CORONATION Street fans were left doing a double take when a former show star appeared on the soap in a completely new role.
Viewers of the ITV soap opera were likely second guessing who was on screen this week during the police matter with Tim and Beth.
Not only was it a shock that the soap had got a police officer that wasn't resident Craig Tinker to deal with an incident, it was a bigger shock that it was the actress who used to play the said copper's ex-girlfriend.
Actress Eve Gordon made an unannounced return to the programme as an unnamed police officer sent out to question Tim Metcalfe about his stand-off with a fellow taxi driver in Freshco's car park.
Eagle-eyed fans will have recognised her for her role as Caitlin Ryan, the first girlfriend of then schoolboy Craig.
Caitlin appeared on a recurring basis for nine months, making her debut in August 2015.

Eve last appeared on screens in May 2016 when her character was written out but it seemed as though she had jumped at the chance to appear once again albeit in a much smaller role.
Caitlin made her debut during the Street's fateful camping trip to Wales.
Her father in the show, Bear Grylls wannabe, Dougie, was played by none other than comedian and TV presenter Paddy McGuinness.
Craig and Caitlin bonded on the trip, including for their mutual love of rats, and Caitlin eventually went to see Craig in Weatherfield to congratulate him on his GCSE results.

She continued to crop up intermittently, noticeably during the Christmas and New Year period when she spent time with Craig and his mum, Beth, and step-dad, Kirk, and helped to create the Street's mural for deceased Maddie Heath thanks to her arts skills.
Caitlin last appeared when she told Craig she was calling time on their romance to study at Dundee University and she has rarely been mentioned again.
On Tuesday night, it appeared that Eve was appearing as a new character and not Caitlin as Beth did not acknowledge or recognise the police officer in the latest scene suggesting that it was not Caitlin who had joined the force.
Beth spent plenty of time with Caitlin due to her staying under her roof during her relationship with Craig.
Commenting on Eve's sudden soap return, one fan said online: "That police officer looks familiar?? Do you know who I think it is? Remember when Paddy McGuinness was in it and he had a daughter that went out with Craig? Sure it's the same actress."
Eve muttered few words in her new role as she briefly questioned Tim and Beth about the goings-on and when Beth lied that she had been harassed, she seemed fine to call a day on the matter.
With the police matter being done and dusted, it is unlikely that Eve will appear in any further episodes going forward.
