Coronation Street favourite Evelyn Plummer, played by Dame Maureen Lipman, could face time behind bars after she kidnapped a dog from its abusive owner.
Over the past few weeks, ITV fans have been distressed while watching cruel dog owner Terry Fensley treating his pup badly. And they weren’t the only ones who were upset by it, as the animal lover shared her frustration on the situation to her close confidant Roy Cropper.
On Friday (December 8), the TV regular decided enough was enough and took matters into her own hands. The cobbles regular decided to rescue the loving pup from Terry’s van and welcome her new furry friend into her home.

Now, Daily Star has quizzed one of the world’s most popular intelligent ‘creative’ tools Bard AI to see what repercussions the star could face. The system warned that the matriarch could be facing time behind bars for stealing the pooch.
It explained: “Evelyn Plummer could be arrested for dognapping on Coronation Street depending on the circumstances of the case. In the UK, theft of an animal is considered a criminal offense, and the penalties can be severe.
“If Evelyn was caught taking the dog and the owner was able to identify her, she could face charges of theft or criminal damage.” But the program was quick to point out that she could avoid prison time if she could prove that she took her four-legged friend with good intentions.
Bard AI went on: “It is also possible that Evelyn could avoid prosecution if she was able to prove that she took the dog with good intentions, such as to protect it from abuse. If she could also return the dog to its owner unharmed, she would be less likely to face serious charges.”
Although viewers have been unsettled by the heartbreaking dog scenes, Coronation Street has worked closely with the RSPCA to deliver the story. Producer Iain MacLeod said: “It was hugely important to us to work with the RSPCA on this storyline, both in terms of the accuracy of the on-screen narrative.
“It was also important for the welfare of the animals on set during filming. It is a really important story to tell. But it was also vital to make sure it was fun for the actors’ canine co-stars – and as all our behind-the-scenes footage shows, it certainly was!”
A member from the RSPCA added: “It is really important that the animals that are being used are treated kindly, fairly and more importantly, that their welfare isn’t compromised at any time.” But fans weren’t buying the far-fetched scenes and flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their complaints online.

A third fumed: “Possible complications in nicking someone’s dog in a close-knit community. One of them being the owner will recognise it instantly. Makes no sense.” A fourth echoed: “Yet another dog in the programme that gets forgotten about 90% of the time…”
A fifth fan clearly had enough and posted: “What sick storyline do we have now @itvcorrie poor bloody dog crying & pretend abuse! Do we have to!!!!!” Fans will have to stay tuned to watch the see the consequences of Evelyn’s actions.
