Coronation Street icon Bernie (played by Jane Hazelgrove) was given the shock of her life when Fern (Gabrielle Glaister) stormed into her life after accusing her of thieving her coat. Since then, the pair have struck up an unlikely friendship which has caused Bernie to slip back into her criminal lifestyle and in some cases, impersonate Fern. However, their antics are soon set to come to an end as Bernie is set up by Fern and left to take the fall.
Official spoilers reveal that Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) begins to rifle through Bernie’s record collection.
He’s soon excited by the white-label promo disc he spots and tells Bernie that she could have a valuable item on her hands.
Elsewhere, Bernie and Fern are up to their tricks once again as Fern attends an interview with a high-end cleaning agency masquerading as Bernie.
Impressed with her interview, the company offered her the job there and then, with Fern arriving for her cleaning job at the jewellery shop.
Assuming her to be Bernie, the owner leaves her to lock up the shop when her shift has finished, before Walters (NAME) heads out for lunch, leaving Fern alone.
Unable to resist the temptation, Fern robs the shop blind knowing she will get away with it as she is dressed as Bernie.
She exits the back of the shop and sheds of her Bernie outfit before walking off with glee, knowing she will get away with it.
As Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) and Bernie head back to No.5, a police officer approaches and inform Bernie that she’s being arrested on suspicion of theft.
At the police station, the officer shows Bernie the CCTV footage of her robbing the jewellers, and the penny soon drops that she has been framed by Fern.
Defending herself, Bernie sticks to the story and tries to explain to the officer that Fern took the cleaning job in her name and stole her clothes before robbing the jewellers.
Will Bernie be able to convince the police, Dev and her family that she is telling the truth?
In a bid to try and clear her name, Bernie gives the police officers Fern’s number but is let down when she reveals they have been unable to contact her.
Their investigation continues pending further enquiries, but will Bernie be sent down for something she didn’t do?
Bernie’s family became worried that she was overworking herself and would slip back into her old ways under the stress.
She has been desperate to find money elsewhere as her family has been struggling to survive, especially with the children living there.
Outsourcing the problem seemed to work for a while, but now Fern has taken the scheme too far, Bernie would see herself in more trouble than ever.
If her family believe the truth, will they hunt down Fern to free Bernie?
Has she ruined her chances with Dev for good?
Bernie’s family have been sceptical as to whether Fern is a real person or someone that she has been imagining, especially since Bernie is the only person to have seen and met Fern.
Has Bernie been imagining Fern from the beginning? If she has, she could be suffering from a major health crisis.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
