Coronation Street star Todd Boyce has promised that the long-awaited comeuppance of Corrie killer Stephen Reid will be ‘satisfying’ for audiences.
Stephen, as viewers know, has claimed three lives since rocking up on the eponymous street last year and destroyed countless more.
The crazed serial killer’s days, however, are numbered, with next week’s outings of the ITV serial drama, which air during Super Soap Week, unmissable as his sins finally catch up with him.
Fans have longed for Stephen to get what’s coming to him and actor Todd Boyce has assured fans that his character’s ending is well worth the wait.
‘I think it will be satisfying with the audience,’ he told Metro.co.uk. ‘It’s hard to talk about without giving away too much detail but I think the audience will be pleased with it.
‘I hope people who have sense of who Stephen is, even if they don’t watch every episode [of Corrie], start tuning in now because it’s a fantastic Super Soap Week – it’s a different Super Soap Week. It’s thriller-esque.’
Consider us very excited.
The episodes in question will see Stephen attempt to evade justice, unaware of the fact that a number of his fellow neighbours are starting to put two and two together, realising they’ve got a killer in their midst.
The big question on fans’ lips is whether or not Stephen will claim any further lives during his last stand and, given just how desperate he is to get out of dodge, it seems that blood could very well be shed.
‘He’s completely and utterly desperate,’ Todd told us. I always remind people that he was desperate when he came to Weatherfield. The wheels had come off in Milan, so he arrived in Weatherfield acting like everything is fine.
‘He’s been covering for longer than a year and a half, so this is the culmination of constantly coming up against adversity.
‘This last stretch of time, anyone who gets in his way is in mortal danger. He will stop at nothing to get away from this terrible situation.’
Be afraid, be very afraid!
As for who is in danger, well just about everyone! Carla Connor (Alison King) suspects Stephen was drugging her and confronts him on the matter, while Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) makes quite the discovery about the killer while doing his own investigating.
Coronation Street has been very clever in the way the storyline, including various characters, and the narrative’s culmination brings together just about every cobbles resident imaginable.
‘From the outset, Stephen was interacting with nearly every character on the Street,’ said Todd.
‘I think that was really planned because it meant that everyone could be his victim. He was circulated widely among the other characters, so it’s really thrilling that they all have a sense of who he is and are affected in different ways by him.’
Coronation Street airs these scenes Monday October 9, Wednesday October 11 and Friday October 13 at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
