Over the past few months, Coronation Street viewers have watched as barmaid Daisy Midgeley (played by Charlotte Jordan) has been harassed and tormented by stalker Justin Rutherford (Andrew Still). Despite turning to the authorities multiple times for help, they’ve proven to be unhelpful. Speaking to Express.co.uk, actress Charlotte Jordan touched on the constant let down from the police in the ITV soap.
Throughout the weeks, Justin’s stalking has been getting increasingly worse after initially starting off with sending flowers and messages to following her every move.
As things have gotten progressively worse, the barmaid decided to go to the police to file a report on the stalker, although things didn’t go as planned.
When speaking to a police officer about the ongoing situation, he seemed to play down Justin’s behaviour and explained there was nothing they could do as he hadn’t committed a crime.
Although one officer encouraged Daisy to take out a protection order on Justin, she decided to take matters into her own hands recently.
Aware the police wouldn’t take action until her stalker had physically hurt her, she decided to hatch a plan with her fiance Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).
Goading him to get a reaction by calling him a freak, Justin lunged towards Daisy at the same time Daniel was walking by with PC Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) who arrested him on the spot.
Actress Charlotte touched on the constant let down her character has faced in the harrowing storyline before that moment.
The soap star said: “She’s been doing all the things that she’s been told to do by the police and by lawyers and things like that.
“But, when nothing goes in her favour, she sort of just decides to try and take things into her own hands and try and get some control on the situation.
“Which is not necessarily the smartest thing to do, but when you feel like you’re backed into a corner, she’s the sort of character that’s going to fight back, she’s not just going to crumble.
“She decides to trick Justin in order to get him arrested and it works.”
“Even though it was a scary and essentially very silly thing to do she feels like the ends justify the means and that it was worth it because he was finally arrested for once which hasn’t happened before.”

However, in scenes set to air next week, the stalker will make his return to Weatherfield just in time for Daisy’s wedding.
When asked how the barmaid feels about his escape from police custody, Charlotte added: “She feels constantly let down by the police in this storyline so I don’t think she’s hugely surprised by it.
“She’s hoping that he stays locked up but he’s managed to wriggle free again. She’s really disappointed but not hugely surprised.”
Despite her stalker managing to avoid the authorities once again, Daisy will try to focus on her big day with Daniel, unaware of the horrific plan Justin has in store.
In upcoming scenes, her wedding starts off to a rocky start as a series of things go wrong including the wedding car being stolen.
As Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) steps in to be the chauffeur for the day, they’re both horrified to find Justin lurking in the shadows of the pub.
Holding a glass full of clear liquid, Justin advances on Daisy and throws acid at her in a sinister act of revenge.
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
