Coronation Street favourite Roy Cropper (David Neilson) learns he must undergo a major operation after suffering with intense chest pains.
After downplaying his health issues, the long-running character was rushed to hospital when the pains became out of control and learned he must have surgery.
Next week, his dog Freddie goes in for an operation and his niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) tells Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) that Roy is sleep walking again.

After leaving the café door open, Freddie runs out, forcing Roy to open up and reveal he is worried about his big operation coming up.
Preparing for the worst, Roy writes a series of heartbreaking goodbye letters for his loved ones and hands them to Evelyn to hand out in case he dies on the table.
Sifting through Roy's letters, Evelyn finds one addressed to her and holds it up to find out what it says.
While in hospital with Roy, she squeezes his hand tight and wishes him luck as he's wheeled away for his operation.
Roy tragic death
Speculating what could happen to the beloved character, fans have headed to social media to insist there will be uproar if writers decide to kill him off.
One viewer wrote: "Already lost Faith, Liv and Harriet in 2022 and Mick now losing Lola and Juliet. Please don't take our beloved Roy Cropper from us too, seriously!!!"
"Please do not kill Roy off," begged a second fan as another demanded: "Don’t you dare let anything happen to Roy."
"They better not kill my Roy off," added someone else.
New romance
As Roy's ongoing health scare prompts Roy and Evelyn to open up, some fans have suggested their friendship could lead to something more.
While Roy is in surgery, Evelyn reads the letter addressed to her and realises how much she means to him.
After reading his touching words, Evelyn heads to the hospital to open up about her own feelings.
One fan wrote: "When are Roy and Evelyn gonna start ‘courting’ as they’d say," as another added: "I hope this little health Scare for Roy leads to Evelyn and Roy getting together."
"Roy and Evelyn so cute," penned a third person while a fourth wondered: "Is Roy going to get the kiss of life from Evelyn?"
Evelyn exit
But as Evelyn heads to the hospital, she spots Yasmeen Metcalfe (Shelley King) at Roy's bedside.
Others have feared this may cause Evelyn to abruptly leave the town when she realises Roy has Yasmeen to help with his recovery.
One fan shared: "Evil Yasmeen go back to boring Stu and leave my Roy and Evelyn alone!" while another fumed: "The evil witch Yasmeen is stopping Roy and Evelyn getting together what kind of evil is this?"
It was announced earlier this year that actress Maureen, 77, would be taking a short break from the soap as she heads to the stage.
