Dan Walker admits he wont miss the scrutiny over his BBC salary

Dan Walker has admitted he "won't miss the scrutiny" over his salary at the BBC.

The former BBC Breakfast star left the public service broadcaster in May after six years on the flagship morning programme.

He has since joined Channel 5, where he anchors 5 News on weekdays from 5pm.

However, he has confirmed he got lots of scrutiny over his earnings whilst at the BBC – and it's something we won't miss.

He also denied reports that he was banking £1.5million in his new lead anchor role at Channel 5 – claiming it was "so wrong".

Dan told The Times: "There will definitely be less scrutiny. At a public service broadcaster, everything is watched very closely.

"I won’t miss the scrutiny of my pay and… and, well, everything that goes with that."

When asked if he was earning more at his new Channel 5 job, Dan was quick to insist he wasn't before explaining things should never be about money as "people are struggling".

The former Strictly star previously shut down reports that he left BBC Breakfast to rake in more cash.

The broadcaster later confessed he feels "embarrassed" by the amount he earns – and that even talking about earnings makes him uncomfortable.

Walker said his parents had very little money when he was a child and that he always wore second-hand clothes.

He said: "I hate talking about money. I feel uncomfortable that I get paid a lot to do a job I love.

"I remember the first day a national newspaper published what I earned on the front page. That was awful.

Dan took to Instagram following rumours that he jumped ship to Channel 5 for a bigger salary.

He said: "It is often the case that the simple truth is much duller than all the made-up ‘moles’ and so-called ‘sources’ claim.

"In a nutshell… a bloke with a really good job, which he loved, got offered a really good job somewhere else which provided an amazing new challenge and the opportunity to make some exciting telly.
