On Saturday night’s Strictly Come Dancing, Tyler West and Dianne Buswell impressed the judges so much they received the first score of 10 in the series. Professional dancer Dianne went on to admit on Wednesday’s It Takes Two that it is the first time in show history that she landed at the top of the leaderboard.
Host Janette Manrara said about their feedback: “The whole routine was a treat for the judges as well because even Craig said, ‘fab-u-lous’.
“And, hello, you got the first 10 of the series. Guys, how did it feel to get Shirley and Motsi to give you those 10s and to bring out the 10 paddles?”
“We were under so much pressure as well with the routine,” Tyler admitted. “We genuinely didn’t expect it.”
Dianne chipped in: “We didn’t expect it and we loved that dance so much, we were so happy.”
“I have never been on top of the leaderboard ever,” the dancer went on to admit.
“I still can’t believe that my name…our name, sorry was on the top, it is crazy.”
Dianne went on to discuss the gruelling rehearsals, telling Janette she really struggled with last week’s routine.
“It was fast,” she replied when asked how difficult the routine was.
“There were a lot of steps, and it was done so quickly that if you do forget a bit, it was like, ‘Where are we at?’
“I did struggle. I struggled physically and mentally with it because there was a lot going on.”
The professional dancer wasn’t the only one who struggled with the routine because Tyler was also recovering from a marathon.
She said he didn’t get to grips with the dance until Wednesday night, which sent her into a panic.
“It was a very slow start to the week,” Dianne admitted.
“Usually by Monday, I’m like, ‘Okay, we need to have the dance where we can dance it from start to finish’.
“There was nothing happening on Monday or Tuesday, to be honest, and on Wednesday I was starting to get a bit hot and sweaty.”
“It was a panic,” Tyler chipped in. “And it was just like, ‘We’re not going to be able to do it’.”
Tyler and Dianne wowed the judges on Saturday with the incredible lift in their routine.
Speaking about how they prepared for that, Dianne added: “I just said to him one day…I actually I saw it somewhere and I sent him a video and said, ‘Do you think you can do this?’
“And he was like, ‘We can try’, and then I just slid on the floor, and said, ‘Pick up my feet and go’.”
Strictly – It Takes Two airs weekdays at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
