Disney bosses have shared insight into what the upcoming Bambi remake will entail, but rather than excitement from fans they were met with fury.
The remake first came to light in 2020, when the studio hired writers Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Anderson Beer to work on the screenplay.
At the time, sources told The Hollywood Reporter Disney viewed Bambi as a “companion piece” to its remakes of The Jungle Book and The Lion King.
The publication added that the studio was aware that Bambi was “less epic in scope and story” and wouldn’t be aiming to shoehorn a larger story into the classic.
However, after Lindsey revealed there would be adjustments made for its “sensitive audience,” Disney was met with an overwhelming wave of backlash.

As well as the physical differences from the original film, there will be significant revisions made to alter the film’s depiction of the death of Bambi’s mom.
The writer confirmed: “Not to spoil the plot, but there’s a treatment of the dying mom that I think some kids, some parents these days are more sensitive about than they were in the past.
“And I think that’s one of the reasons that they haven’t shown it to their children,” Lindsay added in an interview with Collider.
Despite this, she assured fans the adjustments would honour the 1942 classic.

“I do think there is a way to update Bambi and our take on it was did give a little bit more of a scope to it.
“I just think that to be able to bring it to life for kids these days in a way that maybe they relate to a little bit more would be of service to the original,” Lindsey concluded.
After this insight, fans took to X with anger including @HMBohemond who suggested: “Or you could just not. In fact we’d prefer if you didn’t.”
