Children in Need 2023: Doctor Who Special
Doctor Who fans got a first look at David Tennant in action as the fourteenth doctor in a special clip created for BBC Children In Need tonight in advance of the show’s anniversary specials which begin to air on November 25.
However, it was one of his co-stars that garnered the most attention as fans went wild for the return of one of the Doctor’s greatest foes the Daleks.
The minisode Genesis of the Daleks, which was filmed on David’s birthday, saw the Doctor land his Tardis in the room where the leader of the Daleks, Davros, was creating the legendary creatures who would become one of the biggest threats in the universe with their ability to exterminate anything that stands in their path.
It didn’t go unnoticed that Davros was played by none other than Julian Bleach who is one of the few actors to appear in Doctor Who and the spin-offs Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Most notably he played Davros in series four and nine of the revived Doctor Who, and also reprised the role for a skit in the 2008 edition of Doctor Who at the Proms.

This was the first time that fans had seen him in a Whoniverse show without make-up as Davros is supposed to have been crippled in an explosion, and they were loving the fan service from showrunner Russell T Davis.
@MegReeves93 exclaimed: “I can’t tell you how excited I am to see Julian Bleach come back as Davros. That voice sends me back to 2008 instantly. What an absolute joy! Now hurry up 25th November! #DoctorWho.”
@ElijahMurlor concurred writing: “Honestly the coolest thing was seeing Julian Bleach back. #DoctorWho.”
A user called @miracletrophy added: “Doctor Who, Children in Need. I Want more Davros. #DoctorWho #davros #daleks #DoctorWho60 #childreninneed #FridayVibes #WeekendVibes.”
@AMcGown really enjoyed the clip, writing: “That was just lovely – great fun. Love how RTD just *goes there*, like he’s daring himself. Was that Julian Bleach under the make-up? #DoctorWho #ChildrenInNeed.”
@DoctorF0rever exclaimed: “Julian Bleach is back in the Whoniverse #DoctorWho.”
