Doctor Who: BBC release anniversary special trailer

Doctor Who’s original companion Carole Anne Ford, who played the titular character’s granddaughter Susan in the early episodes has teased a return to the long-running BBC sci-fi show as it enters its seventh decade.

“I’d absolutely love the experience [of] doing it on a big scale with lots of money chucked at it!

“Whatever the regeneration is, the Doctor will always be Susan’s grandfather.

“I don’t know how they would do it, but I would love it,” she admitted in an interview with Radio Times.

The veteran star stayed in the show for eighteen months and has the distinction of being the first person ever to exit the TARDIS.

Having watch the show’s evolution she admitted being rather envious of the contemporary Doctors and companions thanks to the scale of the modern show.

“I actually went to Cardiff a few years ago to watch some filming and I was… green with envy, because there you were, having your own light sorted out! I was in permanent shadow.

“And of course, the sets were solid. The TARDIS doors didn’t keep opening and closing by mistake…” she quipped.

Carole was speaking as the show gets set to celebrate it’s 60th anniversary.

On 23 November 1963 we met the Doctor for the first time in an episode titled An Unearthly Child. In saw, teachers Barbara (Jacqueline Hill) and Ian (William Russell) decide to visit the home of student Susan after being astonished by her vast knowledge. However, her address turns out to be a scrapyard.

They then discovered a police box and sawan old man approach and unlock it. When they heard Susan’s voice from inside, they confronted the old man pushng past him, only to discover that the police box is bigger on the inside.

Susan’s grandfather, who called himself The Doctor, was worried that Barbara and Ian had seen too much and whisked them away in his blue box for a journey through space and time.
