Doctor Who returned to BBC with Jodie Whittaker’s final episode as the 13th Doctor. As the Centenary special came to an end, the sci-fi series sparked major excitement after it provided the first look at Ncuti Gatwa’s appearance as the Doctor.

The self-proclaimed Whovians were glued to their screens as the show’s first female Doctor embarked on an epic adventure with the Tardis team.

Throughout the feature-length episode, fans were treated with special appearances from previous Doctors who had led the show during the 1980s and 90s.

This included cameos from Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann who had all remained tight-lipped about their reprisal.

However, viewers were blown away when Jodie regenerated into fan-favourite David Tennant during the final moments of the episode.

Much to their shock, the surprises didn’t stop there as the voiceover hinted at a look at the upcoming season while the credits were rolling.

As the theme tune played, the voiceover said: “Who wants to see a sneak peek at the next series?

“Yes, calm down, me too, stay right where you are,” they chuckled.

Before the broadcaster aired the season finale of Bloodlands, viewers sat tight as they watched David Tennant burst out of the Tardis.

The gripping trailer showed snippets of the upcoming season which showed the beloved Doctor looking lost amongst the chaos.

There was also an appearance from Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate) and a scene of a car bombing.

Despite this, viewers were awestruck when Ncuti Gatwa appeared on screens as he said: “Someone tell me what the hell is going on here!”

This sparked a major frenzy among fans as they took to social media with excitement, this resulted in the actor trending on Twitter, within minutes of his cameo.

Ncuti casting was announced earlier this year which sparked excitement around the Sex Education star, as a result, Jodie opened up about the advice she offered him.

She stated: “I haven’t met Ncuti either but I was fortunately given his number – eventually -and I am a nine-minute WhatsApp leaver.”

“I have left him so many like, ‘Oh another thing and another thing,’ he’s been very generous in actually replying so he’s already my favourite,” Jodie told Zoe Ball on Radio 2.
