EastEnders fans could be in for a shocking twist which could see soap legend Danny Dyer reprise his role as Mick Carter.

And if that wasn't enough, the missing Queen Vic landlord could be revealed as the dead male character which was teased in the recent Christmas flash-forward episode.

Danny left the BBC One soap last Christmas Day in sensational fashion, where hard-man Mick appeared to get lost in the English Channel.

Mick disappeared when trying to rescue his wife Janine Butcher and ex-wife Linda Carter from the water.

Fans have been left wondering if Mick is still alive, and EastEnders boss Chris Klenshaw has just added fuel to the fire during a chat on Friday's Loose Women (February 24).

Asked by host Jane More if Mick was still alive and kicking, Chris admitted that he could be as they never showed the character's body.

He said: "That is the kind of question that's been being asked since Christmas Day.

"It's a soap, anything can happen. There's a kind of unwritten rule that, there wasn't a body so there's every chance."

Then he teased that Mick could be the dead body lying in the Queen Vic when he added: "Will Mick rock back up in Walford in a few years covered in seaweed? Will he be the dead body at Christmas?"

Chilling scenes saw six iconic female characters, including Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner), Suki (Balvinder Sopal), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright) and Denise (Diane Parish) locked in at the Queen Vic – but it was Christmas 2023.

Sharon's white wedding dress was covered in blood and leaning over an unknown male character and confirming that "he's dead".

Fans have been speculating about who he could be, but it's fair to say that if it's Mick, he's had a rough time of it in soapland of late.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One and BBCiPlayer at 7.30pm
