Fans of EastEnders were left feeling emotional after Freddie Slater was arrested for the attempted murder of Theo Hawthorne in sad scenes in Wednesday's episode.
Freddie was led away by police after defending Stacey Slater from Theo, who had broken into her home and attempted to rape her in the kitchen. Luckily, Freddie had headed round to see Stacey and got there just in time to save her from Theo, who has been stalking and tormenting her for weeks.
Freddie then hit Theo over the head with an iron, in a scene which mirrored his mum Little Mo's actions in 2001. A fight broke out between the pair and Theo was left lifeless on the floor.
After Eve arrived home and was stunned to see what had gone on, Stacey eventually rang an ambulance after she and Eve came up with a plan to try and ensure Freddie wouldn't be punished for his actions.
The police arrived and questioned both Stacey and Freddie separately, with Freddie visibly struggling to handle the pressure. He was later led away by police as they arrested him for attempted murder, while Theo was taken to hospital via ambulance.
Fans were shocked to see Freddie taken away by police and took to social media to vent their frustrations. One person penned: "Noooo Freddie CANNOT go down for what he did….!! #EastEnders".
A second person said: "Bring back Little Mo and Free Freddie. #EastEnders," while a third soap fan added: "Get Ritchie on the case we ain't losing Freddie over Theo #Eastenders".
Another viewer wrote: "I hope Freddie isn't going to prison for attempted murder. Even if he didn't really get attacked himself, he was trying to stop somebody else be potentially killed, so that is self-defence by proxy, I would say. I may have invented that. #EastEnders".
Whether Freddie is charged or not with the attempted murder of Theo is yet to be revealed, but actor Bobby Brazier, 20, who plays Freddie is set to take a break from the soap in the coming weeks, so many fans think this could be his exit storyline.
Bobby will be away from the soap for a number of weeks due to taking part in this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing, which kicked off in September.
