EastEnders airs special flashforward scene for Christmas 2023
Ever since EastEnders aired a flash-forward scene earlier this year showing a male character dead in the Queen Vic, fans have been trying to work out just who could lose their life on Christmas Day.
And the latest episode of the beloved BBC soap may have dropped another hint as to who the victim might be.
In the brief clip shown in February of this year, six potential female suspects – Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Denise Fox (Diane Parish) – were seen crowded around a male victim.
And while the deceased’s identity has been kept a mystery, one indicator was shown – a unique pair of cufflinks.
And it is this item that has fans speculating that one of the soap’s most legendary characters may finally meet his end at Christmas.

The cufflinks have already changed hands several times over the past few months.
They initially belonged to Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry). However, he lost them in a poker game to Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley).
Since Rocky didn’t want them, he handed them over to Jack Branning (Scott Maslen). But in the latest episode, Jack passed them on again, this time to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).
As Phil prepared for his wedding to Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), Jack outlined: “Take care of these, they’re Nish’s so probably expensive.”
Phil then replied: “Cheers! Lost mine in a ruck I think.”

So, could Phil be the character to end up dead on Christmas Day?
Since Sharon is one of the six possible suspects, her remarking on how “nice” the cufflinks were and helping Phil to put them on, could potentially be foreshadowing his murder at her hands. Or will the cufflinks end up on someone else’s wrists by December?
Some fans took to social media to share their theories. One viewer posted on Twitter: “The cufflinks are on the move. No way they’re staying with Phil til Christmas.”
While a second added: “Wondering how many times the cufflinks will change hands before Xmas but it is entertaining when they appear #EastEnders”
A third remarked: “THE CUFFLINKS ARE ON THE MOVE I REPEAT THE CUFFLINKS ARE ON THE MOVE #EastEnders.” (sic)
Fans will need to tune in to see if the cufflinks remain in Phil’s possession until then.
Given that there are still several months until the murder takes place, it is definitely possible that they will change hands again before then.
Will they be returned to Nish? Or will someone else entirely end up wearing them on Christmas day? All viewers know is that whoever has them on December 25 will end up dead.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
