Fans of EastEnders have been left wondering whether the upcoming exit of a favourite star could potentially lead to the uncovering of a mystery male character's identity, who is to be "killed off" later this year.
Viewers of the east London soap are already aware that Christmas Day 2023 will see a male character axed from the show in what could be a possible murder twist.
They also know that the killing will transpire whilst guests gather at the Queen Vic pub, with six female suspects – aptly being dubbed 'The Six' – being forced into the line of inquiry as a potential murderer.
All fingers will point between Sharon Watts, Suki Panesar, Kathy Beale, Stacey Slater, Denise Fox and Linda Carter, all of whom will be celebrating the festive season in the long-standing pub when a mystery man loses his life, all bearing blood on their clothes.
In recent weeks on the Walford soap – which have also seen iconic character Yolande make a 'wonderful' return after five years – each of 'The Six' have become embroiled in separate storylines that have left them gunning for a particular individual, hoping for them to someday meet a bleak end.
Now, following the revelation that one female character that doesn't fall under 'The Six' – Karen Taylor – is potentially leaving the BBC soap, fans are questioning whether the secret details of her exit are part of a plan to keep the 'victim' of the murder under wraps.
Whilst some fans are questioning whether Karen's (played by Lorraine Stanley) exit could be a consequence of an unfortunate accidental murder, whilst others are dying to know whether the body shown in a 'flashforward' festive clip could be linked to her.
The last few episodes – which have also seen have shown Anna stepping up the search for her mum amid Cindy Beale's return – Karen's on-screen son Keanu Taylor (played by actor Danny Walters) calling off his romance with Sharon (Letitia Dean) following a turbulent engagement.
But with further future scenes showing her tying the knot with someone, fans are unsure whether Keanu is the groom, or whether the two-timing 'bad-boy' could wind up in a body bag.
Could Karen's upcoming departure be proof of her 'son's' death?
"Just had a theory. Ravi owes Phil a favour…" one fan wrote on Twitter following last night's instalment. "What if Phil gets Ravi to kill Keanu at Christmas and that's why Karen leaves".
Another added: "Wonder if Karen leaves in the new year because Keanu is the Christmas body?"
A third continued: "I’m actually surprised like they better not kill her off! Though now I’m thinking maybe it’s Keanu that’s the body in the vic and that will be part of Karen’s exit storyline."
A source told The Sun on Sunday of Karen's future exit: "It’s always a tough call for bosses when deciding which characters will leave the soap, but it has to be done to keep storylines fresh and create new arcs for characters.
"Lorraine had a great run on the soap and was a real scene stealer with her comic timing and she has certainly made her mark with fans."
