EastEnders first look snaps show Alfie Moon’s surprise wedding

EastEnders have released the first snaps of Alfie Moon with his bride Joan as they get set to say 'I Do' on their surprise wedding day.

The news that Alfie (played by Shane Richie) is getting married was as much of a shock to viewers as it was to his former wife Kat (Jessie Wallace). Especially since he has spent the weeks since his return pursuing his former wife and attempting to woo her back – even risking the wrath of Phil Mitchell in the process.

As Kat has put up with Alfie's ducking and diving for years, you'd think it unlikely he’d be able to surprise her but the the loveable rogue delivers a double whammy.

When Kat is introduced to his bride to be Joan, she learns she actually resides in a care home for the elderly.

Both Harvey and Kat were stunned by the thoughts of the union, with Kat convinced that Alfie was marrying for money as he always has some sort of scam on the go.

But in a touching twist, it turned out that she couldn’t be more wrong and that getting married is actually one of Joan’s final wishes that Alfie is merely helping with.

The idea that Alfie would go to the extreme of staging a mock wedding just to make someone happy melts even Kat's hard exterior and so it was unsurprising when she and Harvey suggested that they hold the wedding in the Queen Vic – just weeks after Alfie ruined Kat's own wedding to Phil there.

Clearly far more forgiving than most would be, she helps him set up for the wedding of Joan’s dreams as the excited bride to be readies herself for her big day.

Joan dons a beautiful vintage style white dress and veil, and is delighted when she arrives to meet her groom as her wedding dreams finally come true.

But with everything good to go could there be a cloud on the horizon for the happy “sort of” couple when Joan’s friends from her care home show up.

They are clearly hiding a secret – but will it be something that will scupper the nuptials, or will Alfie and Joan say I do?

All will be revealed in Wednesday 12 October’s episode.

EastEnders airs on BBC1 on Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm.
