EastEnders made reference to a fan favourite in Monday (March 20) night’s Mother’s Day episode, as Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) was mentioned for the first time in months.
As Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) sat down for a Mother’s Day lunch in the Queen Vic with son Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) and grandson Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell), she was asked if she’d heard from her other son, Ian.
After opening a card from Ben, Bobby asked: ‘Have you heard from dad?’
‘Well, he sent me one of those eCards. Obviously couldn’t stretch to a stamp, could he?’, she replied.
Fans were quick to jump on this mention, wondering if it could perhaps be setting the stage for a return for the character.
‘Ian mention so coming back when??’, one fan wondered.
Another assumed that because ‘Ian sent Kathy an e-card’, ‘they must be in contact’!
Maybe?

The iconic character left Walford after 36 years on the Square, when he departed in 2021.
His exit came after he discovered that former friend Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) had been trying to kill him, after learning of Ian’s involvement in her son Denny’s death.
He made a brief appearance in 2022 at the funeral of beloved Dot Cotton, though kept his distance from the rest of the mourners, which further fueled rumours that he may be set for a permanent return.

Ian was seen on the phone to a mystery person at the end of the epsiode, which aired in December. Though producer Chris Clenshaw refused to reveal the identity of the caller, he insisted that they knew who it was, suggesting that there may be the potential for further stories for Ian.
‘I think Adam’s a little bit busy at the moment, but Adam is Ian Beale’, he said.
Adam is currently touring the UK with the cast of My Fair Lady the musical, taking on the role of Alfred P. Doolittle.
However, with the tour set to reach its end in April, there is every chance that Adam may be available for another EastEnders stint…
