EastEnders’ Whitney actress Shona McGarty received ‘death threat’ from fan

EastEnders actressShona McGartyhas revealed that she received a terrifying ‘death threat’ in the post from a fan.

Shona has played Whitney Dean in the BBC soap since 2008 and has a strong and loyal following of fans.

Her character Whitney has been struggling with a heartbreaking miscarriage with on-screen boyfriend Zack Hudson, played by James Farrar, in recent months.

The storyline isn’t the first heartbreaker for Whitney, throughout her time on the soap the character has been sexually abused by her paedophile step dad, had two failed marriages, and seen the rest of her family move away from the square.

Last weekend, Shona was nominated for Best Leading Performer at the 2023 British Soap Awards for her emotional baby loss storyline.

However, she lost out to Danielle Harold who played Lola Pearce who tragically died last week in heartbreaking scenes.

After working on the soap for years, Shona is used to fans taking certain storylines quite hard but she did reveal to the Daily Star how an interaction with a fan ended up going too far.

After being asked what one of the weirdest gifts she’d received from a fan was, she revealed how a fan had sent her an electric drill in the post.

She explained: “I was sent a Black & Decker drill once. I phone up my dad and I said, ‘Dad I think might be a death threat’ and he went, ‘Oh is it any good?’

“He joked, I’ll take this death threat and put it at the top of your skull and take a couple of pictures.”

Luckily, the actress has since not received any further death threats, and her dad has made good use of the drill.

Shona added: “So I mean, it was fine, I’m still good here to tell the tale. It’s actually a pretty good drill, my dad’s taken it and done some DIY around the house.”

It comes as the brunette beauty has recently teased a new romance just months after splitting from co-starMax Bowden .

Speaking on the red carpet at this year’s British Soap Awards, Shona toldThe Mirrorthat she is currently “talking” to a potential new flame, but admitted that it was still “early days.”
