Emmerdale fans have begged ITV bosses to “change the narrative” for Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) character when she spirals out of control following Noah Dingle’s sentencing.
During Wednesday’s instalment of the popular long-standing soap, the loving grandma was struggling to pick up the pieces after her son was sentenced to three months behind bars for stalking Chloe Harris.
And it’s clear to see that after the devastating outcome of the court case, the fan-favourite has dropped the ball on her responsibilities as a guardian for her two grandchildren Sarah and Jack Sugden.
During the half-hour show, the teenager gave her grandmother a piece of her mind after she forgot to buy her anything for her 17th birthday and sent her younger brother to school when he had a stomach bug.
But it’s fair to say that not everyone is enjoying Charity’s pity party after several village residents came round to the house to attempt to comfort the devastate mother following yesterday’s heartbreaking news.
Throughout the show, many viewers complained that they were tired of the storyline and demanded ITV bosses spice up her character moving forward.
One user penned: “As much as I love charity this storyline should not be about her. It should be about Chloe. Chloe was the victim. I would have loved to have seen the aftermath for her. Showing how this can impact someone. This ‘bad mom Charity’ stuff is a bore now #Emmerdale.”
Another agreed: “I don’t know how to feel about that episode to be honest, I'm very sad it’s just another storyline to kick Charity down and have them all hate her again! Just change the bloody narrative please #emmerdale.”
A third complained: “#Emmerdale most people I know learn & change over time, not Charity tho she just chugs on & on & on … like rising damp.”
After watching the frustrating episode, many viewers suggested Charity would be able to get her life back on track if she split up with her current boyfriend Mackenzie Boyd and got back with her former flame Vanessa Woodfield.
One user wrote: “The sooner these producers and wroters split Mcstupid and Charity up the better. How long they gonna drag this out for with those two [cry laughing emoji] Charity belongs with Vanessa #Emmerdale.”
Another pointed out: “Charity love you are losing it because you f**ked your relationship up with Vanessa just cut your losses and admit it! #emmerdale.”
“Charity did do better when she was with Vanessa, now she’s with Mctrash he’s bringing her down [eye rolling emoji] #emmerdale.”
Emmerdale continues on weekdays from 7.30pm on ITV or catch up on ITV Hub.
