Emmerdale star speaks out after heartbreaking Mary Goskirk twist

Emmerdale: Mary and Faye enjoy family meal

Popular Emmerdale character Mary Goskirk (played by Louise Jameson) has been through an emotional rollercoaster recently.

She came out to her family and was concerned about doing so at her age, but she soon found love with Faye Lamb (played by Kim Thomson).

While things had been looking good between the pair, it soon emerged that Faye was in fact a con artist.

She has been trying to empty Mary’s bank account, targeting her vulnerabilities.

Actress Louise Jameson has praised the storyline, emphasising its importance.

“I think it’s incredibly important, especially for people my age who are terrified of appearing foolish,” she stated.

Talking to Mirror Online, she added: “The scammers are amazingly clever and sophisticated about the way they go about emptying people’s bank balances.

“When I turned 70, it was extraordinary — it was like some algorithm had been alerted and ever since then, I would say at least twice a week I get a text, phone call or email offering me something at a ridiculously cheap price, or messages claiming they’re an alert from my bank.”

Recent scenes have shown suspicions growing in regard to Faye. She initially gave Mary mixed messages before making things serious in a quick space of time.

Mary’s friend Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) has grown worried about her pal’s welfare.

It came as Faye started acting strangely about a bank transfer from Mary, which sparked red flags for Suzy.

Next week, fans of the show will see Mary left injured after a physical fight breaks out between her and Faye.

It comes after Mary finally learns the truth about her partner. Will she make it out unscathed after being left for dead?

Emmerdale continues on Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
