EMMERDALE star Tony Audenshaw has explained why his character Bob Hope lashes out at Liam Cavanagh in tonight's episode.

Tension between the two characters has been brewing as Bob (Tony Audenshaw) struggles to forgive Liam (Jonny McPherson) for his affair with Wendy Posner (Susan Cook).

Bob was devastated after he discovered that Wendy had cheated on him.

And Wendy walked out on Bob after struggling with his cold and distant behaviour.

But in tonight episode, Wendy tries to make amends by telling Liam that she's resigning from the doctors surgery.

Wendy is determined to prove her commitment to Bob, as he cannottrust her while she's still working with Liam.

However, when Bob sees Wendy leaving Liam's place, he jumps to conclusions and accuses them of hooking up again.

Tony explained: "Bob can't believe it when he sees them together. He assumes that they're back 'at it' and he thinks that Wendy has lied to him again.

"Bob sees the opportunity and he punches Liam. It hurts his hand, but he likes that he's done some damage to Liam.

"It's done in a funny way like a play fight, but Bob proper smacks him one and finds it very satisfying to hit him!"

He added: "There were no stunt doubles, but we had a stunt coordinator on the day who makes it work with the angles, because you can't actually punch anyone!"

Emmerdale bosses have already confirmed that tonight's episode sees Bob suffer a heart attack.

He is then rushed to hospital with his life hanging in the balance.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
