Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle (played by Jeff Hordley) was forced to say goodbye to his mum Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) in heartbreaking scenes after the Dingle matriarch decided to take her life after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Speaking to Express.co.uk, Sally reflected on her final scenes and opened up on how she unwinds from such powerful acting.
At the Inside Soap Awards, Sally revealed she felt it was a “privilege” to be able to tackle such a hard-hitting storyline.
Reflecting on how she felt after filming her character’s death, she said: “Well, in a way, you have to be very grateful that you can just leap out of the bed and go, ‘Hey, I’m alive.’
“It’s quite a euphoric feeling in some ways and then a slightly guilty feeling because there are people really going through this.
“This is real, and it matters and there’s people watching it, who are going through it and people watching it who have got somebody next to them who are going through it.

Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) had no idea her mother was dying while spending the night with Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).
Cain and Chas’ husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) reassured her that she didn’t need to feel guilty while remaining oblivious to where she had really been.
Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary month continues next week as the residents realise the true impact of the storm.
Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) became the storm’s first victim despite Kim Tate’s (Claire King) efforts to save her.
Later in the week, tragedy struck again when Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) and Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) were crushed by a caravan.
Vinny was able to free himself but Emmerdale fans watched as Liv died in her husband’s arms after paramedics admitted there was nothing they could do to save her.
Emmerdale airs on ITV on weekdays at 7pm.
