Emmerdale's Nate Robinson is heading down a risky route in his latest chauffeur job, where he's dealing with dodgy clients – and now star Jurell Carter has explained why the character is turning to crime.
Fans will know that since Tracy (Amy Walsh) and Nate secretly tied the knot, the couple have been struggling for money.
After panicking in the knowledge that he can't look after his family, Nate takes a job with a chauffeur company recommended to him by his old school friend, Corey.
However, when the company's clients turns out to dabble in illegal activities, Nate finds himself dragged into the dark business.
In an exclusive interview, Emmerdale star Jurell explains that Nate has "so much pressure" on him to provide for his family.
"He is an old-school gentleman and he wants to take care of his family, but he gets lost in the journey," he said.
"They are really struggling for money and he feels embarrassed he even needs hand-me-downs from his family.
"And so, when he lands the chauffeur job, he thinks he’s got lucky, especially as he almost doubles his wages in a month. Unfortunately, one of the clients is a gangster."
He adds that Nate finds himself involved in transporting mysterious packages for the gangster client.
"Nate is soon asked to do some ‘package’ runs. He has no idea what is in the packages but, before he knows it, he has got himself into deep water."
Jurell, who joined the soap four years ago, said that he can empathise with the situation Nate is in.
"I am not speaking about myself as I am very fortunate but when you need money to survive, you can make rash decisions,” he said.
"It’s the wrong thing to be doing but in the same breath, he is desperate and logic isn’t with him."
Since arriving in the Dales, Nate has been involved in some major storylines – including his recent secret wedding to Tracy Metcalfe.
While Cain and Moira tried to stop Nate from ruining Tracy's wedding day, believing her to be marrying someone else, they soon learn that they'd reconciled in secret months before and were planning on marrying one another.
Other storylines include Nate sleeping with his sister-in-law Vanessa Woodfield's new girlfriend in 2021 as well as Nate's affair with Moira Dingle and Nate discovering that Cain is his dad.
The soap was recently rocked by the shock death of Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) in a freak accident during Thursday 27th July's episode – the episode which saw his son Jai and Laurel wed.
