Emmerdales Meena return for 50th anniversary teased as fans predict jail escape

Emmerdale bosses have hinted that there could be a murder during the soap's 50th anniversary celebrations – with many fans predicting that convicted serial killer Meena Jutla could return.

The ITV soap, which began in 1972, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a whole month of stories this October, including a massive storm that is set to "rip through the village and absolutely leave a massive trail of destruction in its wake."

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star and other press, Emmerdale producers Jane Hudson and Kate Brooks were asked if the storm could potentially cover up a murder.

Jane and Kate both agreed that the storm could cover up a crime, and hinted that a murderer could be on the loose during the 50th anniversary celebrations.

Jane said: "There is always potential for a murder in Emmerdale. It is famous for its murders.

"It is Emmerdale, so there is normally a murderer lurking around a corner somewhere."

However both Jane and Kate would not reveal who the potential murderer could be, but fans think they already know – Meena.

Meena was convicted of three murders earlier this year, but fans are convinced that she will escape and return to take her revenge on the dales for 50th anniversary later this year, with one fan saying on social media: "Maybe she'll escape."

A second added: "Is her escape the plan for #Emmerdale50?" with a third saying: "Please don't say she will pop up in October during the anniversary week by maybe escaping prison."

Another fan also said: "Like every time you think it is finally over… surprise! Her story continues for another few months."

Even Meena herself seemed to hint that her reign of terror was not over in an episode that aired the night before her sentencing (April 15, 2022).

She could be seen saying: "So many lovely memories, and so many more just waiting to be made, starting tomorrow with the whole world watching," before biting menacingly at the prison guard.

Could the Emmerdale villagers be in danger from Meena once more? Viewers will have to wait and see.
