Meanwhile, Sheryl Lee Ralph stuns everyone with her strong award acceptance speech after winning the best comedy supporting actress for her performance on ‘Abbott Elementary’.
AceShowbiz -More winners were revealed at the 2022 annual Daytime Emmy Awards. The ceremony, which took place at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 12, honored excellence in TV programs with Kenan Thompson taking the hosting duty.
Joining early winners, Sheryl Lee Ralph was revealed to be the best comedy supporting actress for her performance on “Abbott Elementary“. The win was rather surprising since many people seemingly predicted that her co-star Janelle James would take home the award.
In her speech, Ralph said, “To anyone who has ever, ever had a dream and thought your dream wasn’t, wouldn’t, couldn’t come true, I am here to tell you that this is what believing looks like, this is what striving looks like, and don’t you ever, ever give up on you.”
She continued, “Because if you get a Quinta Brunson in your corner, if you get a husband like mine in your corner, if you get children like mine in your corner and if you’ve friends like everybody who voted for me, cheered for me, loved me, thank you, thank you, thank you!”
Later, Brett Goldstein was named to be next honoree on the night. The actor received the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, thanks to his portrayal of lovable curmudgeon Roy Kent.
Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, meanwhile, went to NBC’s “Saturday Night Live“. Also bringing home an Emmy at this year’s ceremony was “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver“. The talk show, which is hosted by John Oliver, won Outstanding Variety Talk Series. This year’s victory marks the show’s seventh win in this category.
Actress Jennifer Coolidge later earned a second win for “The White Lotus” after she was honored with Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Prior to this, co-star Murray Bartlett received the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
That night also saw actress Amanda Seyfried reaching a new milestone in her career. The “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” star won her first Emmy as she was named as the winner of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her performance on Hulu’s “The Dropout“. She prevailed over fellow nominees, including Toni Collette (“The Staircase“), Julia Garner (“Inventing Anna“), Lily James (“Pam & Tommy“), Sarah Paulson (“Impeachment: American Crime Story“) and Margaret Qualley (“Maid“).
