Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) and Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) head back to Coronation Street this week ahead of Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) making the discovery that his biological mother – Cassie – is alive.
Cassie and Evelyn left the cobbles a few weeks ago after deciding it was best for Cassie to attend a rehab centre to try and live her life free from drugs.
While they’re returning, Evelyn decides to keep some distance between Tyrone and Cassie by renting a flat at the precinct.
It’s there where she receives a voicemail from Ty, detailing how he’d like her to attend Ruby and Hope’s show at the Bistro, but Evelyn concludes that she can’t go and leave Cassie alone.
Cassie manages to convince Evelyn that it would be a good idea if she heads out for coffee as she’s been clean for weeks, but she ends up making her way to the Bistro to see Ty.
Face to face with Cassie, Ty believes that she’s Cath, the friend of James, and wonders if she’s heard anything from Evelyn.
A breathless Evelyn then hurries into the restaurant, just in time to hear Cassie reveal to Tyrrone that she’s his Mum!
Over breakfast, while Tyrone wonders what to do about Cassie, she’s back in the flat with Evelyn, who lambasts her for the terrible mess that she’s created.
Later on, Evelyn calls at the garage and says to Tyrone that she was only trying to protect him and her plan was to tell him the truth once she could be sure that Cassie was clean.
After advice from Kev (Michael Le Vell) and Abi (Sally Carman), Tyrone heads over to the precinct flat, but what will he say to Evelyn and his mum?
‘Fundamentally she does love Evelyn, she’s her mum after all but she finds it hard to forgive the things she’s done to her as a teenager growing up then ultimately even as an adult, she’s she’s continued to lie about about her and she abandoned Cassie’s baby on the steps of a police station’, Claire Sweeney said.
‘Cassie believes they could have worked something out to keep Tyrone in the family. And then Evelyn has gone back and reaped all the benefits of being a grandma without Cassie.’
