Watch: FBI Global Crossover event teaser
CBS viewers have been championing a potential romance between Stuart Scola (played by John Boyd) and Nina Chase (Shantel VanSanten) since the latter was introduced in the fourth season of FBI. After the popular crime-solving franchise’s three-way crossover on Monday night, cast member Boyd has confirmed their intense reunion in hospital may have finally convinced them to make their relationship official.
Boyd has teased a more solid foundation for Scola and Chase’s romance after their intimate reunion at the end of Monday’s three-part FBI crossover.
The epic international event saw Chase getting shot down in Italy while the Fly Team stormed a house being held up by terrorists.
However, it was Scott Forrester (Luke Kleintank) who was elected to stay with her in the hospital, while Scola was kept in the dark so as not to distract him from his own mission.
Scola eventually caught wind of an FBI agent being injured overseas, and was fuming when his worst fears were confirmed over a phone call.
“When Scola learns that Nina was shot,” Boyd recalled. “The first thing that goes through his mind is the way that he finds it out is such a betrayal. It’s absolutely not OK.”
He also conceded his fellow agents Jubal Valentine (Jeremy Sisto) and Isobel Castille (Alana de la Garza) were put in a tough position.
“What do Scola’s higher-ups have to do, what decision do they have to make, in order to save thousands of lives?” Boyd told TV Line.
“And that’s a tough thing to hear, that it’s not about you.”
Even so, his emotional reaction was a clear sign of just how much Scola has grown to care for Chase during their time out in the field.
“He can’t be there [for Nina in Italy],” he continued. “There’s nothing he can do.
“So the only thing he can respond to is the people that kept it from him. That really sets him off.”
By the end of the third hour, the agent has prevented an attack on John F. Kennedy International Airport and has made a beeline to Rome.

Once he’s by Chase’s side in the hospital, they discussed her recent revelation about her pregnancy with Scola’s child, and both said “I love you” to each other.
Although they didn’t decide to make their relationship official before the credits rolled, Boyd is confident the experience will lead to big things over the remaining episodes.
He confirmed Chase’s near-death experience will “put them in a situation that is catastrophic, and people grow closer from that.
“It deepens their relationship a great deal and hopefully they make a decision to be together and to love one another.”
Chase revealed she was expecting a child near the start of FBI’s current season, though their romantic moments ever since have been few and far between.
Now they’ve both realised just how much they love and care for each other, hopefully there could even be wedding bells on the horizon for the fan-favourite couple before the upcoming finale.
FBI season 5 continues Tuesdays on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
