Furious BGT fans say act was robbed as they miss out on final amid wildcard twist

As the Britain’s Got Talent acts gear up for the grand final tomorrow night, some fans have expressed their discontent with the full finalist line-up.

Following the confirmation of those who have made it through, many viewers have been claiming that one act was “robbed” out of a chance to win a spot at the Royal Variety Performance and the grand prize of £250,000.

On Friday night, eight more acts took to the stage to perform again, including comedian Tonikaku, whose first audition left the judges in stitches.

The comedian – whose act consists of striking ‘naked’ poses – wasn’t a one trick pony, either.

Yet again, he managed to crack Simon, Amanda, Alesha and Bruno up with his now iconic catchphrase: “Don’t worry, I’m wearing…” followed by the audience screaming “pants!”

The show’s presenters, Ant and Dec even got involved with the catchphrase the second time around, as Tonikaku paraded around the stage offering a series of ‘naked’ poses. Before of course, letting everyone know that he was in fact wearing pants.

However, despite making the top three, time was up for the comedian, as his efforts weren’t enough to land him a spot in the final.

His fate was left up to the judges, who were tasked with putting through one final act, following teenage magician Cillian O’Connor winning the public vote. It was between solo dancer Lilliana Clifton and Tonikaku, with the judges deciding to put Lilliana through.

While both spots in the final were well deserved, it didn’t stop fans from flocking to social media to air their disappointment about Tonikaku.

"Pants guy was ROBBED. Bring him back as the wildcard,” one user typed as another exclaimed: "PANTS GUY ROBBED!!!!"

Others were quick to agree, with a third viewer penning: “Fixed. Boycotting #BGT now. Tonikaku was robbed,” as a fourth joked: “#Tonikaku was robbed.

Who doesn’t want King Charles to watch him at the royal variety show? #BGT2023.”

It may not be completely over for fans though, as during Friday’s vote-off, Simon did tease that Tonikaku could be granted the wildcard. This is where an act who lost out in the semi final is given a second chance by judges to return and perform at the grand final.

Previous acts to have been given the wildcard, which was introduced back in season six, include dance duo Shannon & Peter, B Positive Choir, ventriloquist Steve Hewlett and last year’s dog act, Amber & The Dancing Collies.
