Hannah Waddingham in sly dig at Europe as she kicks off Eurovision

The One Show: Rylan and Scott Mills give their Eurovision insight

As the three women took to the stage, Hannah started speaking French to give some of the international speakers some voting information.

Whilst she was giving instructions commentator Rylan revealed UK viewers are unable to vote on Tuesday’s show, however, they will be able to on Thursday.

As she finished speaking in French, Hannah couldn’t help but have a sly dig at knowing more than one language.

She said: “You see Europe, some of us Brits do bother to learn another language.”

Earning a round of applause from the audience, Rylan commented: “Go on girl.”

Julia then told BBC viewers the public will decide who out of the acts performing in the first wave will get a spot in the finals on Saturday alongside the big five countries.

The UK already has a place in the final along with Ukraine who took home the championship in 2022.

Other countries included in the big five are France, Spain, Germany and Italy who automatically get a spot in the finale due to them paying more to organisers

Telling people they can vote via the app, phone or text message, Hannah confessed that was what she had said earlier.

When Alesha wrapped up the voting instructions for the countries eligible to vote, Hannah said: “Now just wait a minute, you eager beavers.

“Just hold on to your horses, in fact, hold everything. You cannot vote yet.

“You will need to wait until all 15 acts have performed and you cannot vote for your own country.

“Now if you spoke French, you’d know I already said that. Just saying, just saying.”

During tonight’s show, fans of the international song contest will see Norway, Malta, Serbia, Latvia, Portugal, Ireland, Croatia, and Switzerland.

Also performing will be Israel, Moldova, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Czechia, Netherlands and Finland all taking to the stage.

On Thursday’s semi-final, viewers will watch Denmark, Armenia, Romania, Estonia, Belgium, Cyprus, Iceland and Greece.

Along with Poland, Slovenia, Georgia, San Marino, Austria and Albania, all compete for a spot in the finale.

Eurovision continues Thursday on BBC One from 8pm
