Holly Willoughby has revealed that guests who come onto This Morning to chat with her and Phillip Schofield still aren’t keen on getting too close.
The morning chat show host, 41, has admitted that, despite the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions on set, guests are less eager to hug than before.
She said: ‘You still have that moment when [a guest] walks towards you when they come on the sofa… I follow their lead really if they go in for a handshake or a hug.’
Her co-host Phillip, 60, agreed and said that, while he’s noticed most people going back to normal, it hasn’t been the case for everyone.
‘It’s interesting that we are having to re-learn how to do that – not amongst our friendship groups but with guests who come in and we say ‘are we hugging?’
The pair were speaking to The Mirror about their experiences of hosting the ITV chat show in the wake of the pandemic.
Phillip continued: ‘It scarred us all in some way and I don’t think we’ll ever forget that it happened because it was damaging on so many different levels.’
However, Holly did have something positive to say – despite a few reservations, This Morning feels like it’s getting back to normal after two years.
‘It feels like we’re up to full capacity again now with guests coming back in. It feels like the good old days.’
After taking the summer off, Holly and Phillip will be returning to their This Morning hosting duties in the first week of September.
Phillip recently had two rounds of surgery – one on each of his eyes – to remove a group of ‘floaters’ that were ‘driving him insane’.
After undergoing one procedure in July, he underwent a second round of surgery to aid the ‘debilitating’ condition – this time in his right eye.
Floaters are usually harmless but can become aggravating and affect quality of life in more pronounced cases – they often show up as squiggly lines in your vision.
They can also show up as flashing lights and are caused by something called posterior vitreous detachment, where the gel inside your eye changes.
Watch This Morning on ITV and ITV Hub.
