Holly Willoughby was "not genuine" with her statement about Phillip Schofield on This Morning, a body language expert has concluded.
On Monday June 5, 42 year old Holly tackled potentially the most difficult moment in her TV career so far, as she tearfully addressed the furore surrounding Phillip in an emotional pre-prepared statement.
During her speech, which featured carefully-planned pauses, Holly said she felt “shaken, troubled, let down and worried” as leaned on her co-presenter Josie Gibson for support.
Despite Holly's clear emotions, body language expert Darren Stanton has said her sadness was "inauthentic" as she appeared "uncomfortable and uncertain" and "not herself".
He also said that there was an "area of disingenuousness", as he could feel she "wanted to say a lot more" during her opening statement.
Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Darren said: "I didn’t feel the connection with Holly during her statement and it didn’t seem genuine. There was an area of disingenuousness with her.
"She definitely needed to address it, but I could feel that she wanted to say a lot more. I’m not quite sure if she meant every word. She did look upset, but that could be for a number of reasons."
He went on: "It’s probably down to the whole situation. She had Josie there and they did have a hug at the end. Josie is a lot more kinaesthetic, a lot more touchy-feely.
"However, Holly is a lot more reticent and my gut feeling is that there was inauthenticity with Holly’s statement and appearance. Even though we saw tears, I think she was crying because of the pressure, rather than the situation.”
Darren also claimed that Holly seemed to be "masking her sadness" as she appeared "upset to be there without Phillip".
During her statement, after saying she felt "troubled, shaken and let down" by Phillip, Holly went on and said "we gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth."
Holly, who looked beautiful in a white dress, thanked Josie for being there, before she looked directly at the camera and asked the viewers at home: "Firstly, are you OK?"
She went on to say: "It feels very strange indeed, sitting here without Phil, and I imagine that you have all been feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down.
"Worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what's been going on, and full of questions."
Holly began to talk about Phil in third person, as she did not mention his name in the rest of the statement.
She continued: "You, me, and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth.
"Who acted in such a way that they, themselves, felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved."
Holly then took a deep breath as she said: "That is a lot to process and it's equally hard to see the toll that it's taken on their own mental health," which is when her voice started shaking.
