Hollyoaks has hinted at a new health-related storyline for Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed), who seemingly felt a bit short of breath and faint during the latest offering of the show.
The former priest, as viewers know, has been struggling to resist the chemistry between he and Leela Lomax (Kirsty Leigh Porter) after they got to know each other properly while at the gym.
One thing led to another during Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and James Nightingale’s (Gregory Finnegan) wedding, with the two sharing a kiss after Leela insisted that she wash the stain out of Joel’s shirt.
Emotions have been running high in recent episodes, following the tragic death of Juliet (Niamh Blackshaw), who sadly passed away after a battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Joel, however, has been on hand to assist in the aftermath of the tragedy, with Leela incredibly grateful for his support.
Sparks flew between the two last week, much to Donna-Marie Quinn’s (Lucy-Jo Hudson) dismay, as she felt it was too soon for Leela to have moved on following Juliet’s death, but the animosity was soon resolved, with Leela vowing to support Donna-Marie in any way she can.
The former firefighter contemplated putting her relationship with Joel on the back burner but, with the chemistry electric between the two, passion ensued once again, with Tuesday’s (June 13) first look offering of the Channel 4 soap seeing the pair spend the day together.
Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis), however, almost caught the two together when he made an unannounced arrival, with Leela doing everything she could to get rid of her nephew and, upon doing so, she instructed Joel that he could come out of hiding, after he took cover behind the wall.

Joel, however, almost gave the game away with a cough and, upon heading over to the table to retrieve his trousers, it was clear that he came over unwell for all of a second.
Is this the beginning of a big new story for Joel?
Hollyoaks continues Wednesday June 14 at 7pm on E4 or stream the next episode from midnight on All4.
