While fans wait to see what will happen next, Daily Star has taken a look inside the life of Jack Osborne star Jimmy McKenna.

Footballing fame

While Hollyoaks viewers might know Jimmy as long standing resident Jack, many might not know that the star had another career before acting.

Long before he joined the popular Channel 4 soap in 1996, Jimmy showed a talent for football and after playing the sport at school, he decided to embark on a career as a professional footballer.

After leaving school with seven O-Levels, he played for football club Sheffield Wednesday in his twenties.

However, while playing for the club in the seventies he sustained an injury to his back, which sadly brought an end to his sporting career.

Looking into the future, Jimmy made the decision to turn his skills from football to acting and the rest they say is history.

Sir David Jason link

Prior to his footballing fame, Jimmy made his first TV appearances during the eighties in programmes such as Affairs of the Heart, before landing a Hollywood film role as Father Rainey in the 1986 film Highlander.

That's not all, as Jimmy has a link to Only Fools and Horses icon Sir David Jason.

Between 1996 to 2005, Jimmy played Sgt. Don Brady opposite Only Fools and Horses legend Sir David in ITV crime drama A Touch of Frost.

From there, Jimmy has not left our TV screens, starring as Michael Meredith in Pie in the Sky and Ray Peters in TV mini series All In The Game.

Coronation Street stint

Hollyoaks wasn't Jimmy's only taste of the soaps, as he had rival roles in ITV programme Coronation Street, starring as an officer and a character called Jimmy Lomax between 1985-1994.

He also had a small role as Ted Bayliss in Brookside in 1999, which was created by the mastermind behind Hollyoaks, Sir Phil Redmond.

Along with starring Heartbeat as S.I.B Majore, Jimmy certainly has some serious soap credentials.

Return of familiar faces

Jimmy previously opened up about the possible return of some Hollyoaks icons in the future – including an appearance from past Osborne family members.

Speaking to Inside Soap, the actor revealed that as long as him and Darren Osborne star Ashley Taylor Dawson are on the soap, the door is open for other characters to return to the village.

"There’s a scope for [daughters] Bethany and Ruth to return," he said.

"As long as [Darren actor] Ashley [Taylor Dawson] and I are here, there’s always potential to bring them back."

Jimmy continued to gush about his fellow co-stars as he added: "And of course, I miss Jess [Fox, who plays Nancy], who’s had a baby.

"I texted her and she told me and said: 'Jimmy, I’ve got a wee boy.'

"She was over the moon, but I’m looking forward to having Jess back, as she looks after me on set and tells me off if I misbehave!"

Life away from the cameras

Away from the limelight, Jimmy tends to keep his personal life private and not much is known about the beloved soap star.

However, it is known that he is married to his wife Beverley McKenna and together they have four children.

With such a stellar career on-screen too, it is no surprise that in real life, Jimmy is estimated to have a fortune of $1.5m (£1.2m), according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first look episodes on E4 at 7pm
