PRESENTER and TV favourite Kate Garraway has been a long-term presence on breakfast shows, including Good Morning Britain.
Derek Draper, Kate's husband, has been seriously ill with long Covid since March 2020, and Kate has been by his side the whole way, speaking candidly about their journey.
How did Kate Garraway and Derek Draper meet?
Kate and Derek met back in 2004 through a mutual friend.
Former GMTV political editor Gloria De Piero was looking to set Derek up with someone.
Gloria initially asked the GMB star if she had any single friends who would want to meet Derek.
They went out for drinks at Claridges with a group of people but it wasn't love at first sight for Kate.
Speaking to The Times about about that moment, Kate said: "Derek arrived thinking it was a date and that I was being incredibly cool by ignoring him."
She did however then agree to a date with the former political advisor and psychotherapist.
"He asked me out, but the day of our date called to say he had a clash," said Kate.
"He’d promised to serve wine at an amateur watercolour painting exhibition at his church. I really thought it was a wind-up.
"But I turned up and he was indeed serving wine to the congregation in a salmon-pink jumper."
How long have they been married and do they have children?
Their love quickly blossomed and the pair were married the following year.
They tied the knot in Camden, London in September 2005.
For their 15th anniversary, Kate had hoped to have a second wedding but Covid disrupted their plans.
She told Fabulous at the time: “We’d planned the wedding for the end of summer, but I don’t suppose we’ll be booking anything now because we don’t really know what we can do."
Together they have two children – a son and a daughter.
Kate and Derek's daughter Darcey is the eldest and was born on March 10, 2006.
The couple also have an 12-year-old son called William, known as 'Billy', who was born on July 28, 2009.
