Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) is set to make a permanent return to EastEnders in the near future, but he is set to come back to a huge shock that will leave him furious.
After being blackmailed by Jo Cotton (Vicki Michelle) to the tune of £50,000, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) realised she had no choice but to start selling some of her assets.
Though it was Rocky who was facing prison for bigamy after Jo tricked him with fake divorce papers, Kathy felt obliged to help him out, explaining that, though their vows weren’t legal, they still meant something to her.
Having drained her savings account and taken out a loan to cover the blackmail, she decided that she would have to sell Beale’s Plaice – the fish and chip shop owned by son Ian.
Beale’s Plaice is not the first of Ian’s businesses Kathy has had to sell, with Walford East being put on the market after grandson Peter Beale (Thomas Law) stole her savings.

When Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley) proposes to her once more, given that their recent marriage wasn’t legal, she warns him that if Ian came back and learnt why his precious chip shop no longer belonged to him, then Rocky would be set to face his wrath.
Though Kathy is currently unaware that Ian’s return to the Square is imminent, we can’t help but wonder if this is foreshadowing of what is to come.
Ian has seen countless men hurt Kathy over the years and, despite them not leaving things on especially good terms when he disappeared in 2021, he surely still feels protective of her.
This, coupled with the fact that she has had to sell his businesses to cover Rocky’s mistakes, can only point to him wanting one thing: Revenge.
Could Ian be set to go after Rocky as he returns with Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins)?
It has also been announced that Peter is set to join them as they return to Walford.
Could his theft of Kathy’s savings also put him in the firing line when Ian learns that Walford East is gone too?
Either way, there are surely set to be fireworks, considering the fact that Cindy Beale is supposed to be dead.
Not only that, but her second family, the Knights, are surely set to be reeling when their missing mum re-enters their lives.
Whatever Ian and Cindy’s return entails, we’re sure it will be unmissable.
