Inside the brutal Netflix formula that's axing fan favourite shows – and decides exactly what you get to watch | The Sun

THE Brutal formula that Netflix uses to axe shows has been revealed.

Over the last number of months the streaming giant has axed a string of high-profile shows.

And now it's been revealed exactly how the streamer determines whether or not a show is worthy of another series.

Netflix relies on a third party company that assesses the performance of each of its titles.

It looks at completion rates, which is the total number of viewers who watched the show from start to finish.

For a series to be renewed, the completion rate must be above 50% for bosses to give the green light.

Unlike TV channels, Netflix are able to see a much more detailed breakdown of who is watching their shows.

This year the platform has axed Sex/Life, Human Resources, Sex Education and Young Wallander.

Often axed shows that have a big online presence simply have just a small legion of fans tuning into each episode.

Meanwhile, Netflix is making games playable on TVs and computers – and not just your smartphone – to a handful of users.

Selected subscribers in the UK and Canada will be part of the lucky few to test the new offering as part of a beta trial.

Two games are part of the initial test: Oxenfree from Night School Studio, a Netflix Game Studio, and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, a gem-mining arcade game.

To see if you're account is eligible for the free perk, simply head to Netflix.com, log in and see whether you see gaming as an option over the coming weeks.

Netflix has been trying to wriggle its way into the gaming sector for some time, unveiling a new game controller app for iOS earlier this month.
