The 1 Per Cent Club: Moment contestant scoops £99k
Have you ever dreamed of winning a TV quiz show? And what would you do if you actually won? Well, a man who took home £99,000 on an ITV quiz show managed to keep the win a secret from his family for an entire year.
Millions tuned in on Saturday night (April 29) to see Daniel O’Halloran, from Bebington in the Wirral, beat 99 other contestants to take home the top prize on The 1% Club.
The show, which is hosted by comedian Lee Mack, sees 100 contestants start each episode but only those who get a question, that only 1% of the country would get right, correct move on.
When a contestant gets an answer wrong they are knocked out and the £1000 that they started with goes into the Prize Pot.
So, conceivably every contestant apart from one could be knocked out, leaving £99,000 in the pot. And that’s exactly what happened on Saturday night’s episode.
Daniel O’Halloran was the last player standing and was given the option to walk away with £10,000 or take on one more question to potentially win everything.
The episode was filmed in July of 2022, meaning that Daniel was able to keep his win a secret for almost a year.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he revealed: “It was very difficult, there were some moments I nearly blurted it out or my family would ask me and I couldn’t keep the smile on my face. I only told my grandma and a few friends.”
Daniel also told the Chester Standard: “For the last nine months, my family had thought I’d taken the £10,000 because I wouldn’t have been able to keep a whole secret.

“On Saturday, we all watched it together and when I said I would take on the question they were just going nuts.
“It was just the best thing because it’s been difficult not telling them all.”
His parents are huge fans of the game show and it was originally his mum’s idea for him to apply.
He was initially nervous to appear on the show with it taking a surprise call back from the producers to settle his nerves.
“I didn’t know how I was going to do it,” he confessed. “You only have 30 seconds on each question, but I just got my head in it for those 30 seconds.
“I remember on the day, my mum and dad both called me for half an hour separately and quizzed me, which was my revision.”
Daniel has already promised to spend some of his winnings on taking his family to festivals this year, with him footing the bill.
The 1% Club airs Saturday nights on ITV1, with previous episodes available to stream on ITVX.
