The world of reality television has delivered some truly ambitious, and wacky, formats in recent years from celebs mastering Winter Olympic events to Channel 4's naked race across the country.
And now, it's rumoured that ITV are making one small step for man and one giant leap for TV as they play to send famous faces to a Space station.
Stars In Mars has just been confirmed to air in the US this year and will see TV stars known as 'celebronauts' learn to manage everyday tasks such eating and drinking, exercising and sleeping, while living in microgravity. They will also be tasked with competing against each other in various challenges.
According to reports, the US version will swiftly be followed by a British one.
The first episode will air in America on 5 June and the iMDB description for the wacky programme reads: "Follows a simulation of what might be like to be an astronaut on Mars, all with celebrity contestants competing to be the last one standing."
According to The Sun, the UK version of the series is currently in pre-production with Britain's Got Talent creators Thames TV and will be on our TV screens by 2024.
The source said: "This show is zany and different – audiences haven't seen anything like it before. It will be a challenge and some will struggle with the conditions. The celebs will live, sleep and eat together – and those who don't cut the mustard will get voted off.
"Talent bosses are currently floating ideas for a presenter and celebs to take part."
ITV declined to comment when contacted by OK!.
Following Fox's announcement in the States, the broadcaster's President of unscripted programming at Fox, Allison Wallach told Variety: "The moment I heard the pitch for Stars on Mars, I knew a show this bold, this big and this outlandish simply belonged on Fox.
"Watching celebrities take giant leaps out of their comfort zone and step into the unexpected will no doubt be truly transformational and comical.
"Throughout, we will learn a lot about these stars, and when you factor in William Shatner leading the charge from Mission Control, we have the makings of a show that’s ready for blast off!"
The rumours come as ITV gears up for the new series of I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!.
The upcoming series, which has been pre-recorded, will see celebrities who have competed in the jungle before return to the programme, but this time they're in South Africa instead of Australia.
While exact details of what happens are being kept under wraps, viewers can expect to see one contestant suffering a terrifying injury.
Janice Dickinson was reportedly left 'semi-conscious' after suffering a terrifying head injury on set.
The former supermodel, 68, is understood to have tripped over a cable in the dark – and had to be rushed to hospital for emergency care. It's understood she had to withdraw from the programme to focus on her recovery.
Janice, from Brooklyn, New York, is said to have been searching for one of the camp's open-air toilets, around 100ft from where the nine contestants sleep, when she fell.
Her camp mates heard her fall a rushed to her aid, before a first aider was called – but her injuries were so severe that she needed urgent medical care.
