Jamie Oliver show axed after just one series in crushing blow

Jamie Oliver breaks down how to cook perfect roast beef

The Great Cookbook Challenge, which aired on Channel 4 last year, saw Jamie team up with Penguin Books in search of the next big cookbook author.

Jamie, 47, oversaw wanna-be chefs as they tried to impress the judges on the series to win the chance to eventually secure a publishing deal.

The first series launched in January 2022 and ended in March of the same year.

However, it seems that will be all there is of the series as Channel 4 has pulled the plug on the show.

Despite just one series of the show making it to air, the broadcaster has decided not to renew it.

Ratings for the show were relatively promising, but it seems Channel 4 bosses weren’t confident another instalment would work.

A source commented: “Bosses have decided to leave Great Cookbook Challenge at one series.”

Speaking to The Sun, they continued: “They’re proud of the show and will be continuing to work with Jamie on other shows currently in the pipeline.”

Admitting he knows lots of people love to view cooking competitions, Jamie admitted he found them ‘uneasy’ and ‘stressful’.

“I know everyone else loves them, but they just make me a bit uneasy, a bit nervous, and it’s a bit stressful, and it’s not my cup of tea,” he told BBC News.

He explained the reason he agreed to do the show was because it was “through the lens of publishing”.

Jamie’s success in the world of cooking and cookbooks has earnt him an impressive reputation as one of the best-known TV chefs.

In the programme, 18 cooks battled it out to try to follow in his footsteps, with Dominique Woolf winning in 2022.

Dominique released a book detailing her recipes in the summer of last year following her win.

Jamie has made his fortunes with cookbooks and cooking shows, and continues to release new projects.

In a post on his social media last month, he revealed his new book, 5 Ingredients Mediterranean.

He wrote on Instagram: “An exclusive first-look at my brand new cookbook 5 Ingredients Mediterranean!!!

“You’ve been asking me for a new 5 Ingredients for years and it’s finally here.”

The first and only series of The Great Cookbook Challenge is available to watch on All4.
