Jane McDonald made an emotional admission about her father Peter, who died in 1993.

During her series, Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan, the singer took a moment to think about her late father.

As she was exploring what the city had to offer, Jane told viewers: “Dad would have loved that fact.”

“I’ve learned that Kyoto escaped heavy bombing during the war. So there are a wealth of ancient temples still standing here.

“In Kyoto, there’s lots and lots of temples. In fact, there are 1,600 of them.”

As Jane stood by one of the temples, she continued: “This one is the most famous, the Kiyomizudera.

“The Kiyomizudera Complex was built in 1633 and is one of Japan’s most celebrated temples.

“Set in the stunning green hills overlooking Kyoto. Amazingly, this entire wooden temple was built without a single nail.”

“My dad would have loved that fact,” the presenter added as she reflected on her family loss.

Jane was very close to her mum Jean, who was also a singer and her dad, who worked as a miner.

The 60-year-old, who lived at home until she was 45, lost her mum in 2016.

Speaking in a previous interview before Jean died, Jane said her singing ability came from her mother.

She said to Express.co.uk: “My vocal talents come from my mum Jean.

“She has a beautiful voice yet has never had the confidence to perform.”

Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan returns next Friday at 9pm on Channel 5.
