In a new social media post, the 67-year-old former model insists that she made the troubling remarks, which many deemed body-shaming and ageist in 2022, solely for a good TV.
AceShowbiz –Janice Dickinson addressed her harsh comments when she served as one of the judges on “America’s Next Top Model“. In a new social media post, Janice insisted that she made the controversial remarks solely for a good TV.
When asked if she regretted her body-shaming and ageist comments, the 67-year-old former model said in an Instagram video, “Um, no.” She went on to say, “It was acting. And that’s that.” Janice doubled down on her remarks in the caption. “People forget that TV is acting,” so she wrote.
Last month, Janice faced backlash after footage, in which the runway pro labeled model Robin Manning “plus-sized” and insinuated that she shouldn’t win because of it, resurfaced online. The season 1 panel, including Tyra Banks, Janice, Kimora Lee Simmons and Beau Quillian, also deemed the 26-year-old “too old” and “too fat” to be a professional model.
“Robin’s out as far as I’m concerned about being a supermodel,” Janice said while the judges were deliberating at the end of an episode, “Because I think ‘America’s Next Top Model’ is not a plus-size model.” Of Robin, who was voted off on that episode, Janice went on to add, “She should be working at Avis,” referring to the car rental company.
Not stopping there, Janice also allegedly made “monkey sounds” after commenting on black contestant Kelle Jacob. She additionally criticized her retouched and un-retouched images, saying they were “like a Hitchcock film!”
Back in 2005, Janice reflected on her stint on “America’s Next Top Model”. Speaking with Radar Online, Janice said that she was fired from the show. She added that while it was fun being a judge at first, she eventually realized she was being labeled as a “b***h.”
“I was just telling the truth and I was saving these girls from going out there and being told that they’re too short, too fat, their skin’s not good enough. I was to ‘America’s Next Top Model’ what Simon Cowell is to ‘American Idol‘,” she said at the time. “I’d rather be an honest b***h than some a** kissing, sugar-coating, namby-pamby, wiping-a** motherf**ker. I made the show number one in 52 countries. And then I got the sack.”
Following her departure, Janice was replaced by Twiggy on the long-running series, which ran from 2003 to 2018.
