Dame Joan Collins has revealed a secret connection with Dynasty and the Royal Family.

The acting legend, 90, became a household name when she played the role of no-nonsense Alexis Carrington on the classy soap drama in the 1980s.

But speaking on The One Show on Friday (September 22), the Tales from the Crypt star let viewers in on a secret royal connection on the programme.

Talking with Roman Kemp and Alex Jones, Joan recalled how during lockdown, she and her family rewatched the iconic American soap opera.

Collins joked that often, her family would ask her what Alexis would do next in this scene – with her becoming increasingly more annoyed.

She added that looking back at her outfits, she noted: "Some of those hats were so ghastly!".

Dame Joan then confessed that many of her looks were inspired or taken directly from Diana, Princess of Wales.

"It was a time of great glamour; it was like the end of the glamourous era," she recalled.

"And we used to copy a lot of things Princess Diana wore in magazines. She would be going to Russia or something, and then have grey boots or a certain hat.

"I'd say, 'That would be great for when Alexis goes to Moldavia', and then [the designer] would sketch it quickly and, believe me, in two days, they would have it made," she exclaimed.

Joan added that the set of Dynasty had a team of Italian seamstresses on-hand in case a new outfit needed to be constructed.

She added that the women – in their seventies at the time – were "such great cutters and seamstresses", branding them all "brilliant".

Diana became a style icon of the 1980s, as the country and the world began to fall in love with her.

Her wedding dress to the future King Charles in 1981 became a turning point in fashion, with her style proving to be influential for decades to come.
