Joseph caught out for Saul's murder in Hollyoaks as huge breakthrough is made

Zoe Anderson (Garcia Brown) makes a huge breakthrough in Hollyoaks next week amid her secret investigation into Saul Reeves’ (Chris Charles) murder, as she finds potentially game-changing evidence.

The detective has been working with Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) to try and prove that DeMarcus (Tomi Ade) – who is the police’s prime suspect – did not kill Saul.

Saul was brutally murdered by Joseph Holmes (Olly Rhodes) in a knife crime attack last month. Joseph subsequently planted the evidence – including the murder weapon and Saul’s engagement ring – on DeMarcus, who was later arrested for the crime.

Detective Lexi Calder (Natalie Anderson) reckons DeMarcus is guilty. Her colleague Zoe, however, knows there is more to this than meets the eye, and thus she and Felix have been working the case together to prove DeMarcus’ innocence.

Felix feels like he’s hitting a brick wall in upcoming scenes, and in an emotional episode next week, he visits DeMarcus in young offenders.

It’s the first time he’s set foot in young offenders since DeMarcus’ arrest, and things soon become quite heated, as Felix claims he cannot stay long.

DeMarcus retaliates by telling his dad how he has always run when times get tough, and a series flashbacks take place, as DeMarcus remembers his childhood, while Felix reflects on his own at the home with Cormac.

Joseph, meanwhile, proudly boasts about how he cheated on Vicky (Anya Lawrence), and promises to do it again unless she blocks her new online friend.

Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adams) and Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) grow concerned that Joseph and Vicky are engaged, and the former gets talking to Zoe, and inadvertently gives her the breakthrough she’s been looking for as he shows her a picture of Vicky’s engagement ring.

The ring in question is, of course, Saul’s!

Felix is stunned when he finds out about the development, and soon teams up with old pal Scott, as they attempt to find more evidence by breaking into Joseph’s family home.

Gill, Joseph’s mum, confuses them for a couple looking to view the house, and thus Scott and Felix pose as newlyweds.

We can’t wait to see this, honestly.

The duo’s impromptu plan pays off, with Felix obtaining a phone that Joseph has been hiding in his room. Subsequent scenes will see Vicky agree to hand over the passcode to Joseph’s phone, which leads Felix and Zoe one step closer to getting the truth.

Another dead end ensues, however, forcing Zoe to ask Sam Chen-Williams (Matthew McGivern) for assistance.

Shocking information subsequently comes to light for Joseph, who manages to keep his calm under pressure. The question is: will he be able to keep his cool indefinitely? Or is it only a matter of time before the truth comes out?
