Strictly Come Dancing is officially underway as the 15 celebrities have all been paired up with the professional partners. With returning favourite Karen Hauer dancing with Jayde Adams this series, the Strictly pro expressed her excitement at being in a same-sex pairing.
Last Friday, fans watched this year’s line-up of stars get put into their professional pairings which they’ll remain in throughout the duration of their time on the show.
Strictly fans were given a glimpse at what to expect in this series as the celebrities took to the dancefloor for the first time the following day.
One of the stars who left the judges impressed with her high levels of energy was the huge Strictly fan and comedian Jayde Adams.
During the live show, the 37-year-old admitted she was having the best time of her life and it seems her professional match Karen echoed the same excitement.
Since joining the show a decade ago back in 2012, Karen is the show’s longest-running female pro and has danced with stars such as Mark Wright, Jamie Laing and Jeremy Vine.
However, it seems her first same-sex partnership with Jayde tops them all as she made a slight dig at her former matches while speaking to Radio Times.
When asked how their all-female partnerships came about in the first place, Jayde said: “When you’re a plus-size woman none of the male dancers is strong enough to lift you and that’s not our fault.
“I thought to myself, I would just love to be in that supporting role [doing the lifts] because I am really strong as well, I thought it would challenge me.”
With Karen replying: “Don’t tell all my other celebrities, but this is the most excited I’ve been in a while!”
For their first performance, Jayde and Karen danced the Samba to Christina Aguilera which received a standing ovation from judges Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas.
When it came to scoring, the duo received a total of 23 with Craig Revel Horwood giving a four, Motsi giving seven, Shirley giving six and Anton Du Beke scoring six.
Over the moon with her total, Jayde hugged her professional dancer as they celebrated their successful routine.
When speaking to host Claudia Winkleman after the routine, Jayde said: “If I think about it too much I’ll cry and I don’t want to start off just doing that every single week.
“It’s so overwhelming, it’s amazing, I can’t believe I just did that!”
Getting emotional when speaking about her pairing with Karen, the comedian called her amazing as she expressed her gratitude for doing this experience with her.
Currently, Jayde and presenter Kym Marsh both have the same score with Paralympian Ellie Simmonds ahead of them both with a total of 26.
At the bottom of the leaderboard is football legend Tony Adams and Katya Jones with a total of 15 after failing to impress the judges with their Tango routine.
The top spot goes to both actor Will Mellor and wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin who managed to secure a score of 34 in week one.
However, the leaderboard could all change as of next week when their scores will be added to what they received in week one.
Strictly Come Dancing continues next Saturday at 6:30pm
