Kate Garraway mortified as Adil Ray accuses her of sleeping in dirty bed sheets

Kate Garraway was mortified after her co-host Adil Ray accused her of sleeping in dirty bed sheets covered in bed bugs live on Good Morning Britain.

During Thursday’s (June 16) instalment of the popular ITV breakfast show, the 55-year-old revealed she woke up this morning covered in mosquito bites due to the rapid heat wave across the country this week.

As she explained how she struggled to get a decent night’s sleep, the broadcaster asked her 48-year-old colleague how to reduce the number of bites in the evening.

But it was clear to see the mum-of-two was fuming with his response after he asked her if she had changed her bed sheets recently, noting her bites could actually be bed bug bites.

Kate asked: "Am I the only one who got eaten alive last night? I had the windows wide open and this morning I am covered in massive bites like mosquito bites.

"I'll show you later Adil, I was trying to think of a place I could show you on air but I can't, huge bites – let me know, is it just me or is it one of the blows of hot weather?"

It was at this point that Adil asked her: "When was the last time you changed your bedsheets?"

Humiliated at his question, she replied: "Shut up! How rude, how rude!"

He then went on to cover up his thinly veiled insult by explaining: "It's a thing that most people don't change their sheets enough, men especially."

The news reader reassured viewers that her bed sheets were in deed fresh and clean, before her fellow broadcaster Pip Tomson gave her the much needed advice she was looking for in order to reduce the number of mosquito bites at night.

She advised: "Put some toothpaste on it – toothpaste on bites will soothe that itching."

Eager to move on from the topic, Kate thanked her colleague for the advice before she touched on the top stories in the news that day.

It comes after the documentary star shared her concerns about her husband Derek, who has been spending a lot of time in hospital in recent months.

The journalist took to social media to share a snap of her back garden, sharing her gardening skills as she tried to distract herself from her worries.

She wrote: "So Derek has been in and out of hospital a lot recently – hopefully the wonderful health teams will help him improve but I woke up early feeling exhausted & very fretful.

"As you know, my garden is my #happyplace so came out for some #calm and to get stuck in to some weeding & planting."
