Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) has been treading on eggshells while waiting for Janine Butcher’s (Charlie Brooks) sentencing in EastEnders.
In recent scenes, she finally learnt how long the Walford bad girl would be serving behind bars, and the news knocked her for six.
When Linda, also known as Albert Square’s biggest lover of the Royal Family, revealed that she didn’t care about the Coronation, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) realised that there must be something seriously wrong.
It didn’t take him long to guess that Janine’s sentence must have been announced, and a quick Google search revealed that he was right.
Both Alfie and Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) were shocked to see that she had been sentenced to just five years, after everything she had put the Carters through.
Janine was responsible for the car accident that left Linda in hospital, and, to rub salt into the wound, she let Linda take the blame.
Once her lies had been revealed, she led a high speed car chase, which resulted in Mick diving off a cliff and being lost at sea.
With Linda hidden away upstairs, still reeling from the sentence, Alfie attempted to offer some comfort by insisting that it was a ludicrous sentence that offered them no justice at all.
Devastated Linda pointed out that Janine would be out of prison in three years, while she would have to serve a life sentence without husband Mick by her side.
When Alfie offered to take the kids off her hands to give her some space, she revealed that space is all she has now that Mick is gone, and that every day without him is painful.
In a heartfelt confession, Linda revealed that she envied Jay Brown and Billy Mitchell (Jamie Borthwick and Perry Fenwick), as they know Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) is dying, and get the opportunity to say goodbye to her.
She revealed how sad she was that she never got the chance to cherish Mick before he was cruelly ripped away from her.
When Alfie offered to cancel the coronation party, Linda revealed that there was nothing to cancel, as she hadn’t even had chance to think about it.
She explained that, though people would be expecting a party, she just couldn’t go through with having one without Mick.
