Prying further into their relationship, he mentioned that they bonded over their charitable work and often kept in touch.

“We are the same age,” he said, to which Kirsty said: “I don’t believe you!”

He went on share a joke the pair had about their common age of 73, revealing to viewers: “We are the same age and we have a little joke.

He said to me, 'Lionel how do you look the way you look and I look the way I look?', and I said if you come to Hollywood I can help you!”

The pair burst into laughter, with Lionel suggesting he tried to give the King some special Hollywood treatment.

Fans took to Twitter to react.

“How is Lionel Richie the same age as King Charles? He's been touched up, obviously,” asked one fan.

“Lionel Richie is 73??,” added a second n disbelief.

The All Night Long crooner is set to perform at Charles' coronation ceremony in London, and many were left pondering the connection between the two.

However, as it turns out, their history runs deep.

Richie first met Charles, then known as the Prince of Wales, many moons ago.

"I've known him for a while," Lionel revealed.

"I’ve been Global Chairman of the Board of his Prince’s Trust. What we’ve done over the last 30-some odd years, we’ve helped a million kids."

In 1987, at a Prince's Trust event, Richie met Princess Diana, and their meeting caused quite the stir.

Richie gifted the Princess of Wales two leather jackets for Prince William and Prince Harry, and a photo of them together made headlines when Diana was spotted holding a drink, a royal protocol no-no.

Speaking of his upcoming appearance, he added: “To get that invitation, 'Would you like to witness a little bit of history?' is not too bad for a little Alabama boy coming up through the ranks. I’m very proud to be at the coronation."
