Loose Women Carol McGiffin accused of fat-shaming as she slams lazy people

Loose Women's Carol McGiffin has slammed 'lazy' people for wanting calories on menus, which sparked backlash among viewers.

On Friday's episode (July 1) of the popular ITV daytime show, Carol McGiffin was joined by Jane Moore, Frankie Bridge and Sunetra Sarker while the foursome discussed an array of topics.

But it was one subject that really got viewers at home riled up.

Following on from the introduction of calories on menus for food in restaurants and pubs, it is now being proposed that alcohol could have the same treatment.

Discussing whether or not calories should be on menus and displayed in pubs for alcohol, Carol's comment left fans at home taken aback.

"It's the government taking away responsibility," she fumed, before Jane chipped in with: "For the people watching who are going to [sic] 'it's alright for Carol, she's a skinny mini' [sic] answer that question."

Carol then replied: "The reason I'm not fat, is because I don't want to be fat."

She then went on to explain how when she was younger, at "around 18 or 20", she realised her clothes were getting tight so decided to buy books from Slimming World and ended up memorising the calories in most things.

Slamming "lazy" people for wanting calories on menus, Carol said: "If you want to know you can make it your business, I don't need the government telling me everything because I don't need to know."

Sunetra urged that some people use calories on menus as a way to educate themselves, to which Carol replied: "But it's a bit lazy, isn't it?"

Viewers watching at home weren't impressed by the discussion, with one writing: "Caroline [sic] on #LooseWomen ‘I’m not fat because I don’t want to be’ blah blah blah WOW talk about fat shaming there."

Another slammed: "Calories on menus is dangerous for those with anorexia and eating disorders #LooseWomen @loosewomen."

While a third added: "Ffs, in the current climate, people are going to be looking more at the price on the menu than the calories… #loosewomen."

A fourth then said: "#LooseWomen no no no calories should not be anywhere unless you ask for them living with a daughter with anorexia nervosa is horrendous trying to eat out it causes more harm than good #eatingdisorders."

But someone else did agree with Carol and penned: "#LooseWomen people who want calories on menus can't take self responsibility and want to blame others for their own body state. It's time people realise they are the only ones responsible."
