Lorraine pays tribute to producer Hannah Hawkins
Lorraine Kelly paid tribute to her late colleague Hannah Hawkins as she opened her ITV show today.
“We’ve got some very sad news to share with you about a much-loved member of our team,” the presenter explained in the latest instalment.
She continued: “Our producer, Hannah Hawkins, died just before the weekend after discovering that her cancer had returned only a few months ago, just shortly after she gave birth to her beautiful boy, Rory.
“She was amazing at raising awareness and money for breast cancer, including taking part in the CoppaFeel! trek across the Sahara last year.
“And of course, helping out so much with her change and check campaign that I know meant so much to her.”

Lorraine continued: “Well, Doctor Hilary [Jones] is here… too young, too soon.
“It’s very difficult for all of us, especially anybody who knew her, it’s very hard.”
“Absolutely,” the ITV doctor replied. “[She was] so kind, so universally adored.
“We miss her terribly already – just 33 with a young son, it’s really a tragedy which we’re all coming to terms with.”

Talking about the Change and Check choir single, Lorraine added: “I’m so glad she got to hear it and to hear that Joss Stone had come on board to do this.
“I know how much it meant to Hannah, and the words…”
“She loved the lyrics,” doctor Hilary confirmed, continuing: “She loved the words and that’s why we are dedicating the song to Hannah.
“All the money raised through the single will go to raising money for research into secondary breast cancer, and that’ll be Hannah’s wonderful legacy.”
“That’s true, and obviously it’s horrific for her husband and her baby, Rory.
“He will obviously be told by everyone who loves Hannah just what she was like.
“Nobody’s got a bad word to say about her, she was just a lovely, lovely woman and a much-loved part of the team.
“Everybody’s been very, very upset but as you say, concentrate on what she has done already and what she will continue to do in her name.”
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
